Another mystery also surfaces which adds to the intrigue.Joanna Toule, a field biologist, was studying Indigo Buntings in Southern Illinois. Loving nature, I was drawn to this lady with her talents for locating the nests. And, after that the manner in which these nests and birds were recorded and later analyzed. One quote that I loved: 'In nature, the winner is the one that produces the most young'. For nature lovers, there is more than ample bird information and some interesting tidbits about water beetles and addis flies.A young girl, Ursa appears and there is a mystery surrounding her. Who is she and where did she come from? There is a neighbor, Gabriel Nash, that is called the Egg Man. He also has an air of mystery around him.The author touches on cancer survival and how it affects a person afterwards. This was extremely well done as it included not only the survivor but also friends. The stigma that is attached to certain types of cancer are also covered.Depression is also covered in depth...There are many causes of depression and it may be the result of genetics or environment. Lots of questions concerning this....is one able to recover with love and happiness?Another quote that I loved 'Sometimes a bad thing has to happen to make a good thing happen'. Looking back at my personal life (70 + years), this is so true. The things I thought were so bad at the time, turned out to be the best outcome.Lots in this one including the mystery of Ursa, a family mystery that is also solved. The importance of forgiveness in life is also covered. The author ties everything up at the end...very nicely and all the answers are there.. An interesting mix of characters also contributed to the plot... Loved the independence of Tabby! I would like to meet her and have a conversation!Highly recommended.Please note that this is my First Reads selection for FEB 2019.

I downloaded this book this afternoon as a Kindle First Look. I finished it a half hour ago. The characters were achingly real, the dialogue authentic, the emotions raw, and the plot had just the right twist to remain plausible with the rest of the story. Brilliant first novel! My only regret is that it wasn't a little longer- can't wait for a sequel to revisit these characters!

As far as free books go, I thought this one was pretty ok. The pacing was good as the writing flowed well. I was a little bored by how often i had to read about what time the characters woke up and what they had for dinner but I'm sure there are readers who like those details. The biggest hangup i had about this book was how unlikable the main character was. She was written as a step above everybody else in her knowledge and experiences but only because everybody else was written as ridiculous human parodies. The cops were bad at their jobs, the social worker was bad at her job, rural people were so dumb that they couldn't possibly have read Shakespeare or identify a cardinal as anything other than a red bird.It's a shame because this book had a lot going for it too, but that removed simplistic view of the world made it hard to take seriously.

I downloaded it, read a couple of chapters and deleted it off my kindle. This is typically the kind of book that I like but the whole beginning of this was so ridiculous that I couldn't even stand it. She meets this kid who within in the first five minutes basically says I'm an alien and that she heard cheese is good. Seriously .... awful writing.... moving on

I devoured this delectable treat in one day! Could not, would not put it down! It takes skill to tell Ursa’s story so believably.

Where the Forest Meets the Stars is a unique and mostly unpredictable story about a random connection between a little girl and a lonely woman. The story is captivating and flows in an authentic way as their lives get more entwined. I was impressed to see this is a debut novel. I read it over a twelve hour period and when I had to put the book down, I couldn't quit thinking about it. The ending was a little drawn out as the storylines are pulled all together, and there is a subplot with a secondary character's family backstory that seemed unnecessary. These were tiny bumps in a well told story. If you like stories where you can root for the characters and watch them overcome pain from their past, this one's for you!

When I purchased this book I had high hopes for it, as most of the customer reviews had given it a high rating. But, this is probably the most uninspiring web design book I've ever come across.Yes, all the technical details are in there, so if you're looking for a reference manual, perhaps this book would be a good one to have on your shelf ... but Macromedia's own help files, website, and user's guide provide the same information. So, why spend the extra [$$] for a volume that's not nearly as succinctly written?!If you're the type who likes to learn by doing, then you'll be disappointed with "DW/FW" Savvy. The tutorials are lackluster and the included photos/layouts on CD-ROM are unbelievably amateurish. The Fireworks section is just "OK," which is surprising since Joyce J. Evans is a highly regarded expert. Once again, everything you need to know is included, but you're definitely not going to say "Wow, I want to do that!"My advice is to sprint on over to Project Seven's website and purchase their "Dreamweaver MX, Building on Solid Foundations" ebook. You'll learn *so* much and have a truly enjoyable time while you do. PVII's team has a design aesthetic that provides for clean, functional, well thought out pages coupled with cutting edge CSS techniques that will have you just marvelling at how much you can do with styles.Bottom line, your money could be better spent elsewhere.

If you have a limited budget or are a beginner to Fireworks/Dreamweaver, don't waste your money on this book.This is one of those books written by commmittee - a group of authors each doing separate chapters. Unfortunately it reads as if none of the authors ever coordinated with each other. One glaring example, most of the illustrations are B&W and the text keeps referring the reader to the see color examples in a later chapter. Unfortunately most of the examples the reader is sent to see are not in that chapter at all! Whilte there is a copy editor and a technical editor listed as part of this book's production team they don't appear to have done anything constructive.I have been making notes in my copy as I find typos, grammatical errors and errors in the tutorials (either mistaken directions or missing directions or material missing from the included CD). Virtually every chapter has several errors of each kind.The beginner will quickly become confused, or worse, give up on trying to learn.There is a Yahoo group run by the lead author of the book where some of the errors were beign collected. A week or so ago the author noted that the book had gone into a 2nd printing. It is possible that some of the many errors in the first edition were caught and fixed. I certainly hope so. This book does real damage to the image of Sybex as a publisher of quality material.

The use of a mixture of experts to contribute to a book is not new, but having as many as this is unusual.There is no overt clash of authors as you read through, and as Dreamweaver is such a deep program, it seems best to have experts in different fields contribute what they do best.The first thing that stood out about the book is the fact that it features two separate programs in the title. As you work through the book, the reasoning becomes apparent.The book is laid out logically, starting, as you would, with page layout and setting up, and using templates, and getting all the pieces together.At this stage, you leave Dreamweaver and go straight into using Fireworks. This is a logical progression, albeit an unusual concept. Fireworks fits seamlessly with Dreamweaver, and as they are both part of the MX Studio range, it is likely that the users of one program will have at least a passing knowledge of the other.Finding a web image program into the middle of a web page program was a bit of a surprise. I expected to come across this bit at the end, but it is inserted where you need it in the scheme of making a site, just after the layout.This is the time you start to play with the images etc that will go to make your site look good, and careful planning is needed here to avoid having images that are too big and load slowly, or even saved in the wrong format, or not sliced to optimise download times.The Fireworks MX section is well written with very detailed instructions regarding the optimizing of images with this program which is packaged with Macromedia Studio MX. These programs fit seamlessly together and you can switch from one to the other, reduce file sizes and slice and save in the applicable format and have the HTML file for putting them back together on the web, and then have the file switched back to Dreamweaver, all in one easy stage.No more opening a file, manipulating and slicing and then saving before re-introducing the file to Dreamweaver from disk. Do the whole job and re-introduce the re-worked image into Dreamweaver MX and re-size it, or apply the changes in place in Dreamweaver. If it is still not right, just repeat the process.Fireworks MX optimizing of images for the web is superb, and it is considered one of the best programs for this work.Features.Dreamweaver MX/Fireworks MX is broken into 6 parts for easy navigation.The first part is all to do with setting up and saving templates etc for your site.Fireworks is covered next, and this consists of 6 chapters which go into a lot of detail about image files and how to deal with them best for web optimization.After that you go to the actual page layout, and dealing with tables and layers etc, including the whys and wherefores associated with this.After learning all about interactivity and CSS and hyperlinks you move to inserting dynamic content, such as Flash files, rollovers, and forms.Next comes the complicated stuff, the development and programming side of things. Not just HTML, but ColdFusion, XML, XHTML, and other emerging technologies.The final section is devoted to site administration, which is essential for good site keeping. The book is backward compatible and anything that relates to the newer version is marked well.Bottom Line.The bottom line for me is that this is an extremely useful book, whether this is your first site, or you have been doing it for a while. I am sure that you will find things that you weren't aware of, had missed, or just forgotten. It is easy to read, and easy to follow, and that makes it worthwhile from the point of view of a user of these two programs.Mixing the two programs in their correct places in the book is really very sensible. Ok, you may still want more info on Fireworks MX as a program, but what you do get covers a lot of ground, aimed explicitly at how it works with Dreamweaver MX, which, after all, was the idea.

The annoying, chummy tone of the generally awful writing is the perfect compliment to the factual inaccuracies, typographical errors, and tiny type. A fair number of the required tutorial files were not on the CD, and are not available on the website.There's a great deal of useful information, but why wade through an error-laden bombastic text that's easily 20% longer than it needs be to get at it? It's a handsome text, but handsome is as handsome does.A good editor could have saved this book. Apparently Savvy doesn't employ any.

This is a great book! I have Adobe CS5 for Mac, but this book is so cheap I had to get it bc the info is invaluable! Awesome buy! Even though it's outdated, the basic functions are the same and it really saves me in Fireworks when I can't remember a simple function.

My girl adores dogs and we decided to adopt one as a new addition to our family. A lot of useful information on how to train your pup. I liked the book. It was an easy read and I have implemented some of the training with my pup already. There were a few spots in the book that I feel could have used a little more detail or possibly further examples or methods of attack, just in case the pup didn't respond to the initial training. But, other than that, it was good. Simple.

This short review is targeted on "The 30 Day Book Launch", which is unrealistic and without trying to sound mean, delusional. I think anybody who tries to follow the week-by-week as stated will either fail or burn-out. Each week is broken down into four themes: Editing, Building your ebook, Publishing and Marketing. And each week is filled to the brim with tasks to be handled. Which means while you are scrambling to revise your manuscript, you are also researching and contacting people to help you fix any structural inconsistencies with your book, but you are building and polishing your author platform and social media presence.What got me was that she (the author) wants you to revise your story in a week! Seriously? Now if you have a novella or a couple of short stories, you might be able to revise in a week, heck maybe even a few days, however, if you've written a novel do you honestly believe you can revise your novel in a week while to tackle all the other tasks prescribed by the author such as researching and creating marketing promotions, outreach to social media and polishing your website? Writing is hard. Revising/ rewriting is harder.The overall book (The 30 Day Book Launch Plan) is good and has some valuable pieces of information which I think will benefit any writer who wants to self-publish, however, it would wise to take that information and work at a pace that you can handle. Spend a few days researching and contacting editors, spend a week or two finding and creating online relationships with Beta's, take as much time as you need to revise your book. Try to remember that good things take time.

Stopped reading when they tried to tell me Creator won the Ky Derby which was run on a Thursday. Always run on Saturday around the first of May. Creator came in 13th. If they can't get those facts right, why should I believe anything I read.

I thought Israel was God's chosen land and people? This book was all over the place and I found many of the prophesies inconsistent with the Bible. I was expecting so much more. Pray hard before spending your money on this book.

I started reading with an open mind. At first it was difficult for me to see where Mark was leading me. Finally I began to see that God had to bring Mark all the way down before he was ready to use him to bring one of the most amazing & timely prophecies to anxious & waiting Christians, hungry for an answer as to what was happening all around us. I was so thrilled to realize that it actually was God who orchestrated a scenario that would bring an imperfect but willing man into the White House under IMPOSSIBLE odds to show His glory and power and plans for America. Yes, God had been preparing Donald Trump for many years for His plans to bring good & decent Americans who loved God & country a way to unite together & turn America back into a Christian nation. Showing His glory, God helped Trump win an election rigged heavily against him by evil actors in high places in the crooked government ruined by the previous administration. I praise God for the encouragement I find in this book & have set in place with my wife ways that we can get involved to be of some use in this amazing plan God has for our country.

This book explains everything we are watching unfold in our country right now. It is amazing to see I feel an excitement for our country and future. God Bless America and God Bless Donald Trump.

An interesting read. I'm extremely cautious about people, especially authors, who talk a lot about getting special words from God. It may be true or it might not be true, and as far as I'm concerned it's between the individual and God. What this book does remind us, however is the need to treat what's happening in our country as a spiritual war, the importance of our daily Christian walk, and the necessity of daily intercessory prayer for our country and our President.

This book could have been condensed into one chapter and sold as a pamphlet. He spends more time on corporate 501 c 3 then I'm Trump prophecies. The book doesn't even mention the Mueller investigation the FBI the doj or any of what's currently happening in the news.

The best way I can describe this book is with a shoulder shrug and "Ehhhh". I am extremely cautious of "prophets" who parse out their "prophecies" into bite sized morsels to keep the masses hanging on every word - and "prophets" who endeavor to sell their "prophesies".I must admit that I found the book interesting, but not riveting. I can relate to his brief biography having dealt with extreme depression and PTSD myself.

Mark has done a thorough job of presenting what he believes the Lord has revealed to him. The only negative to me is that he obviously doesn't recognize Catholics as Christians and knows nothing of the massive prayer effort we performed for the election of Trump as well.

I gave this book 3 stars because I agree with previous reviewers that the quality of the stories is uneven. Some I'd definitely have given 4 stars and some only 2. Perhaps we are not correctly identifying the issue here, however. Perhaps it is just that readers obviously have different tastes and respond best to stories that reflect their preferences.So, without intending to denigrate the work of any of the writers included in the collection, I'm going to be very specific about some of my likes and my dislikes.Among those I enjoyed:"The Judgement" by Anne Perry--This one or Rusch's work was definitely my favorite in the book."Corpse Vision" by Kristine Kathryn Rusch"The Unicorn Hunt" by Michelle West"Star of David" by Patricia Briggs--Although the ending was sentimental, still I found the story satisfyingAnd a couple that disappointed or actually annoyed me:"The Night of Their Lives" by Max Allans Collins--It seemed to me that the whole point of the story was merely to arrive at the final sentence, and that just wasn't enough for me."Ninja Rats on Harleys" by Elizabeth A Vaughan--This story annoyed me more than any other in the book. Why? Because there was so much to like about it. I loved the writing, the cast of characters, and the premise. Having established this much, however, the author just stopped. There was no real story here (no there...there). It read like the first chapter of a novel--a novel I might well have enjoyed quite a bit. As is, however, the story more than disappointed.

So glad I purchased this book! Seriously, I enjoyed every single story in this collection and that's just not the norm. Lately, any anthology I've purchased I've only enjoyed maybe half of the stories and in past collections there were usually only one or two that weren't to my taste.I know I'll reread this collection again and again because I love to revisit great writing! And I have a LOT of new authors to check out. Something that I really appreciated about this anthology is that even when it was obvious that the story was situated in a world the author had created, I didn't feel lost in that world or as if I was missing anything - there was plenty of context for someone who hadn't read whatever series it might have originated from.

This was a terrific read! It is a collection of short stories by authors that write paranormal fiction. I have read other works by some of these authors and was delighted to find that they write short stories as terrific as their longer works. The stories are suspenseful, engaging, and will leave you wanting more. I recommend this to anyone who reads paranormal books.

I don't give a five star very often, but I cam close here. Rating systems like this frustrate me since the best leader i ever had routinely gave us 3 ratings. When I pushed the reply was: "i expect you to perform at the highest professional level. When you do that you meet my expectations. That level of performance may exceed the expectations of others. Do you want to work for someone who has lower standards? I expect the best and you give it. What's the problem?" I started this book with very high expectations. These authors met those expectations. I ended each story thinking that I have to read more by this author.

The first story is great, the others are good, but lack the "something" that différenciante a "short story" from a regular story cut short. They feel more like excerpts from longer works. Still, a good way to get to know several authors and their worlds.

As a mom with a baby and a toddler, I had forgotten how enjoyable reading can be. These short stories by some of my favorite authors could be read in bite sized snippets. I was honestly saddened to read the last word.

Being a collection of stories I, of course, like some better than others. The best ones made me think or gave me an expected ending.

I loved the chance to dip into unknown writing. Short stories allow a reader to try a writer out without the commitment of a whole book.
