I bought this in conjunction with the DK Eyewitness Travel Guide: Seville & Andalusia. They both work together beautifully. The DK book gives wonderful depth to the area and Steves' book gives a quick and lively look and great tips to specific areas and parts of Seville, Granada and Cordoba. And, he gives great tips to visiting surrounding areas. Both of these will be a great help to me as I have been in the northern part of Spain but not the South.

I use to love rick steves but this trip i felt like every recommended tapas bar was filled with american tourists, it really took away from experiencing the local life. I ended up skipping the recommendations and heading to places filled with locals. Still love the books to use as guides for touring museums etc and tricks in saving time.

I thought this would be helpful esp. the Southern Spain section but Steves skips over the Southern Coast and actually discourages spending any time in the area. the only stop recommended was the town of Narja which is nice but there are many interesting and fun areas on the coast from Malaga east to Almaria. Most of Europe vacations in this area, esp. Germans and Brits. Steves complains that they have ruined the area, which I find very snobbish on his part, since we are all tourist. Before tourist came here in flocks the whole area was tiny fishing villages. To be irritated by tourist is strange since he makes his living off tourism. The Southern coast is best visited after the extremely hot summer months when most people are not on vacation. If you like beach hopping you will love the area with more wilderness then high rises. Many nude beaches are clearly posted, very low key and not creepy. You won't find much English spoken here and after a while you really look forward to chatting with Brits on holiday who are very light hearted and friendly.My Spanish host look though the book and was miffed at how Steves dismisses the whole area. If you dislike the beach then you certainly will find helpful info. about Sevilla and Granada, which are must see cities, but if you have the time try getting to the coast for beach hopping, Cava drinking and seafood. Very relaxing away from the bustle of the cities.

GET THIS E-BOOK!!! I debated whether it would be worth the money before I took a big month-long trip to Spain this past October/November 2009. I was not disappointed! The most useful feature (there are tons) in the Snapshot city guide e-books are the self-guided tours and walks. There are excursion tips, updated cost, hours, locations, phone numbers, maps, self-guided walking tours in the city...Seriously, it's a no-brainer. Get this e-book. Even if you never use it. For so little money, you can save yourself a world full of headaches. He also points out cool things to see in the city that aren't in other tour books, cool facts and history, and he gives invaluable tips of the good places to go for everything (food, entertainment, museums, neighborhoods, etc). Also, the local free tourist maps they give you are usually anemic by way of detailed, accurate information. Having this little tool as a backup is critical when you may not have time to hunt down bigger books and maps. It also gives you info about surrounding cities you may like to visit, as well as tips on language, money, phoning...Plus, it fits in your pocket (I used it on my iPhone with the Kindle reader). You don't look like a tourist dork reading your iPhone, like you do lugging around maps and books. You look way cooler... I used this guide for Sevilla, Cordoba (a HUGE help since there wasn't alot of helpful city info I could easily locate (tours, etc)). I self navigated thru La Mezquita, and saved a ton of money on formal audio and tour guides (the self-guided tour in the e-book is VERY thorough and comprehensive). It also give you tips to Granada & Gibraltar (I ran out of time to see them). Rick Steves knows how to make a city come alive! You will get your money's worth 10 fold.

Information on cities and towns that covered in this book is interesting, valuable, and useful. But if you are going to visit Malaga, Cadiz or both, you will find nothing in this book. Meantime Malaga has many places to visit like the Castle of Gibralfaro the Alcazaba, and Museo Picasso. Cadiz also has many interesting buildings and one of the most beautiful beaches in the world - La Playa de la Caleta.Same time the book covers Morocco and Tangier that are not located in Southern Spain.

Stevens in this little book is concentrating on the most touristed coastal areas on Basque (northern Spain). Not much on the more mountainess smaller villages.

I am a huge Rick Steves Fan. However I was disappointed that this edition did not include several Spanish cities I am visting including Malaga and Ibiza.I would never say I don't love Rick Steves, but this book does have a huge oversight. To defend it a bit, I found out that the entire Spain book also omits Malaga and Ibiza... so since this is a snapshot of the main book, I guess the real fault lies with Rick Steves Spain.I hate cheating on Rick with other travel guides, but Lonely Planet has my purchase for this trip :(sorry Rick!

I really enjoyed reading the Whalestoe Letters when I read House of Leaves, so I felt like I had to get my hands on this book. Reading just the Whalestoe Letters without House of Leaves was still good. I really like the story that's told within it, and I liked the psychological deterioration that you can see in some of the letters... But... outside of House of Leaves, I feel like the Whalestoe Letters don't pack as big of a punch. They meant so much more with the rest of House of Leaves, so just reading them on their own, while it's still a good story, it just doesn't have as much weight to it.

I am very happy to have this in my collection. It's just something I felt that I needed after finishing House of Leaves. It feels personal, in a weird way. Absolutely fantastic.

Girlfriend wanted it, came quick, had a slight bend in the paperback but she was happy regardless.

Maybe the saddest book I've ever read. And it's a mere Appendix to entire other Novel "House of Leaves" so you can only imagine what that book is like

This book is simply an anthology of the letters sent between Johnny Truant and his mentally ill mother, Pelafina during her stay in a psychiatric hospital. While a majority of these exchanged messages are included in the appendix of House of Leaves, there are a few additions. This text seems unnecessary because it doesn't quite expand on the story, but as someone who was enthralled by HoL I found it pleasing to have a separate collection of the depth creating digression. I can only recommend The Whalestoe Letters to those whom were truly engaged by the horror of House of Leave, which I trust is anyone whom gave it a read.

One of the most beautifully, dark, and tragic stories I've ever read. Definitely recommend it.

I gave this as a Christmas present. The person I gave it to loved the photos and the stories and information. He said that he would definitely recommend this particular book to anyone interested in the NASA Apollo Space Program. The pictures alone are enough to make people flip through this book.

I’m a space geek so this is right up my alley. It’s like visiting a museum on the moon! Love the foil cover!

Apollo to the Moon isn't your normal book on the Apollo project. It doesn't specifically deal with the Apollo project from a direct historical perspective as say Apollo by Catherine Cox and Charles Murray does, however it does indeed tell the story of the Apollo project. It isn't an astronaut biography and it isn't a book on any specific aspect of the mission like Digital Apollo by David Mindell.Apollo to the Moon instead looks specifically at 50 artifacts from the Apollo project on display in the Smithsonian museum in Washington. Whilst most of the artifacts are directly associated with NASA's Apollo project, some aren't but have ties to the project like the collection tin used by the Southern Christian Leadership Conference who protested at Cape Caniveral/Kennedy about the costs of the project, or the air freshener in the shape of a moon buggy.Most of the book is as you would expect filled with actual NASA Apollo artificts. Of course you have the items you would expect like Gene Cernans EVA suit that he used on his historic moonwalk being the last man to set foot on the moon, the Apollo 11 command module, Eugene Kranz's famous white vest from the Apollo 13 mission etc. Each artifict is details with full color pictures, a description of the manufacturer, dimensions and materials used for construction followed by a few pages in-depth description of the item including its history, how/why it was used and its significance to the project.On top of the artifacts that you can actually find at the Smithsonian, there are details, images etc. of items that obviously cannot fit there but can be seen at other NASA museums like of course the Saturn V launch vehicle, the crawler transporter etc.Also sprinkled throughout the book are mini biographies of people, some of which you may never have heard of but had significant contributions to the project like Rita Rapp, the Apollo food systems engineer.As you would expect from the National Geographic, this is a first class and highly recommended hardback book detailing items and people both that you may know about but also things that you probably never even thought about or didn't realize their importance in the overall project. I've read just about every book that has been published about project Apollo and the early NASA years and I must admit I learned quite a lot from this book.Very highly recommended.

Nicely illustrated but like virtually every other book that has ever been published on the Apollo Program.Heres is what I received: An excellent hardcover book with fascinating details about the Apollo and related equipment and personnel. She has access to key artifacts from the Smithsonian archives and she effectively uses these resources to tell the story of Apollo and other groundbreaking space exploration.Want to know about the Hasselblad camera used for photography on Apollo 17? It’s included. Interested in an astronaut’s view of the interior of the LEM? It’s there too. There is even a section on the urine collection equipment used on Apollo 11. (We must not leave anything out!) There are 50 objects covered in the book in recognition of the 50th anniversary of the Apollo missions.Published by the National Geographic (who else!) “Apollo to the Moon: A History in 50 Objects” is a book that is to be read, studied and treasured. Hats off to Teasel E. Muir-Harmony for writing such a memorable and worthwhile book.

This high-quality book fits into the physical characteristics of a "coffee table book" with its thick paper, excellent photos, and nice footprint. Many of the artifacts are expected, such as capsules and actual astronaut gear, at least in principle if not the exact items. Even as a fan of the program, I did not know that some others even existed, such as the rover's fender brought back by Gene Cernan.Various unexpected items were not that special as an artifact, but were the anchor for telling another sidebar about the program. In that category are the tread on the crawler for the Saturn Vs, a McDonnell jacket, Cronkite's LEM model, and more. The only real misfit for me was the chair from the Kennedy/Nixon debate. I think the author overstates the importance of JFK, but that's a minor point among a lot of succinct summary text that goes with the artifacts.I liked that the artifacts weren't all equipment, and instead included some very human items, with Gene Kranz's vest and Armstrong's personal pouch among the nice touches. And, yeah, the author had to include something on the essential, "How do you go to the bathroom in space?"The closest we got to the famous "Tang" of the flights was "an orange drink" (text, no photo) under the food item #21. I could not think of any artifacts that I felt were really missing from the 50.Sometimes I wished for a bullet point on where the artifact is, and then decided that would not age well in a history book, so the author probably did the right thing. In a few cases I wasn't sure how the listed manufacturer fit in. For example, for the mission patch, Owens-Corning is listed, whereas the text talks about A-B Emblem. I imagine that is the design vs. implementation distinction. Minor nit. I liked the moon rocks' manufacturer as "The universe". Nice.

It's intended for doctors/surgeons working on traumatic, combat related injuries. This is NOT a first aid manual or a "how-to" book for most folks. Chances are, if you don't have a hospital handy, most of the injuries and attempting the treatments in this book will kill the patient, if they're not dead already.So why buy it? Because without the attempt at treatment, injuries covered by this manual will almost definitely kill the patient. If you've got nothing to lose, you need to be able to do the best you can with what you have. Unless you have a ready supply of cadavers to practice on (and if you do, that's scary!), or work in an ER that gets lots of combat-style wounds, you really can't make use of this book on a regular basis. But if SHTF as some say, hospitals will probably not be available. So you're choices may be letting a loved one die or making the attempt to save them. If you don't have the knowledge to hand, you're choices come down to one only. For me, I'll take the chance I can save them. That's what this manual has - knowledge. Skills to use it are a different matter entirely.I guess the best I can say is that for what it is, it's excellent. You have to decide if it's right for you or not.

I'm a former Military Medic trained in TC-P and served in Iraq (2 tours) I now work as a Remote Paramedic Practitioner in turd world tourist spots (Sarc) and have found myself out of comms and out of reach of evac, fortunately my patients were never in position of expiring thank God. This book will give you the knowledge of how to but not the experience of actually doing it, but its a great learning tool and God forbid if your patient has no hope at all you might, might, be able to save him/her by using this book as your guide.

This is an excellent book for someone wanting to know the stark truth about war triage, surgery, and first aid. I wanted it for the boating, hunting, camping box. It's more than I hope I'll ever need when it comes to taking care of injuries, but it's also fascinating reading. This is a graphic publication of how to take care of injuries one might expect to encounter on the battlefield. It could be applied to natural disasters, car wrecks, serious workplace or household accidents as well. This is the coolest book I hope I never have to use.

This book needs more information. My 7 year old was very disappointed. It would be nice if they included unformation about the different types of bees and their roles.

First page...first starts a queen bee...sorry folks, but that’s a drone!!!! Can’t believe a NON beekeeper wrote this book!!!!

It is a great book to teach young children about our wonderful bees. My only complaint is that it shows a picture of a Drone when talking about the Queen. It's disappointing that no one caught this error.

My 8 year old loves anything written by Raina Telgemeier. This is a great addition to her collection.

My 7 year old daughter loved Sisters and Smile so she really wanted the rest of this authors books. I didn’t realize this title is recommended for 10 and over since the others skewed younger. My daughter was very excited and enjoyed the book, but I did get a shock when she came out of her room and asked what “Bi” meant. The story isn’t overly sexual at all, there are some crushes, but there is one page where a character asks another if they are gay or bi, so be prepared. My daughter is a little younger than the intended audience, so I would have waited to get this book had I known.

My eight year old daughter enjoys reading this book series. She was thrilled when I gave her this book to read on a long car trip. As she was reading she started asking me questions about boys liking boys. I asked why and she said in the book that is a discussion that is occurring between characters. I was very surprised. This is a children's book! I understand that this is something our kids growing up today will need to understand, however, this is something that as a parent, I will discuss and teach her more about! Not a book! And not at this age!. It's my job as a parent to inform my child of certain social issues and I really didn't appreciate this mature subject matter being pushed in this book. I took her book and read it myself to understand exactly the theme of the book. The subject matter continues throughout the book and ends with a bang. Not OK! And now my daughter and I have had conversations that I would've preferred to have when she was a year or two older and could understand a bit better. I hope this gives an insight into this book so you can decide as a parent if it's appropriate or not for your child.

This book is engaging and has cute pictures. The thing I did not appreciate is that the plot revolves around the homosexuality of 2 of the main characters and the bisexuality of another character. I just wish I'd known that before giving it to my second grader. The reading level was 2.3, but the content was way too mature.

This book adresses the topic of homosexuality. I was not ready to explain to my 2nd grader the ins and outs of homosexuality. This is my fault for not doing my homework ahead of time. My child had already read several books from this series which were all in her school library, I just kind of assumed it must be appropriate. It's not, at least for an 8 year old. I right this review to warn other parents.

Places everyone! The stage is set for Telgemeier's sweet middle school story of friendship and, yes, drama!Once again, this award-winning author introduces a diverse cast of characters facing the familiar difficulties of growing up. The messages of perseverance and loyalty are only made stronger by the backdrop of a school theatre production as the cast and crew work to discover their talents and explore the boundaries of their comfort zones.

My daughter is 10 years old and she loves this series. She hated reading until she discovered this series of graphic novels. We have since recommended them to other parents and relatives and they too find their children reading. My daughter has read and re-elected these books again and again, and talks about the content often, finding them funny and insightful. I would strongly recommend them to tween readers.

I DO NOT APPROVE OF HAVING TWO BOYS FALL IN LOVE IN THIS BOOK! This is absurd!!! Especially for my 10 year old to read about!! I will never buy another book from this author, ever! I would not of gave it 1 star but you had to give a star rating to move on to next page. (Gag)

Both my daughters (ages 11 and 8) love graphic novels, particularly Raina Telgemeier’s. My 8 year old daughter is dyslexic and these books allow her to comfortably read through longer stories but don’t feel daunting like traditional chapter books.
