This is an interesting book, one of my more favorite ones. The main couple did not get a sudden large inheritance or win the lottery to fund their preparations, they slowly saved for a rainy day with food and other supplies. This should encourage anyone who wants to start to begin, and you can start slowly, but you need to start! Anyone who has gone through a hurricane or ice storm understands the need to have some food and water on hands. It really helps that the main character had a military background. It is sadly realistic that the veneer of civilization is so thin, but after a few days without food, people are not rational and are totally in lower brain function. Later if you ask them why they were so stupid, they will have no clue (regrets, yes, but no idea as to why they did that). I found it totally acceptable that Carmen, who died in the first book, is mention. Anyone who has lost someone dear, knows that you don't get over it in a day and talking helps process grief.

Another tremendous and entertaining work by the Dunaways....!Book 2 carry's thru with the same moral and post-apocalyptic adventure that they created in Book 1. I especially like both books because neither are afraid to include God and a belief in a helpful higher power, into the lives of the characters. Although realistic to an art, the one thing that might be missing is: with the Johnson's living in such a strong farming area, more detail to weather, crops, time of year for planting & harvesting could be added. It wasn't until near the end of Book 2, could I determine what season or time of year that all of this was taking place. As a group they have a tremendous set of skills, but no one seems to be a farmer who is worried about planting, growing and harvesting for the coming year ahead..........just saying.Thanks again for such an entertaining and relevant series of books.....!

I gave this book five stars because the story, in my estimation, is not only good, but the premise of the story is believable; even highly possible. The downside of this work, though, is the punctuation, grammar and spelling: it's terrible. I am a news writer for a small town news agency and am a stickler for proper English. William and Cindy, please do some editing before you put out your next book. Thanks.

because it is NOT a book of preparing & surviving a cataclysmic event. It does, though, present acts which each violate at least 3 of the Ten Commandments as legitimate and healthy, and it tosses aside one's consciously acting against the Commandments despite knowing better with the plan to seek forgiveness later.I am not focusing this review on any attempt to argue Biblical instructions. I am warning the readers that if they are seeking a way for Christians to survive events, be prepared for quite foreign & personal doctrine which may highly offend you.--particularly when they condone murdering-in-anger completely justified.As for the Dunlevy's second literary work, this too, screams for an editor and a proofreader AND A NEED TO FOCUS ON A SINGULAR PURPOSE OF THE WORK then moving and building on that goal. Lacking all three the reader is left with Sunday sermons and wondering what happened to the new government that was introduced chapters back, or what is going on with the two rescued young women, and a reader unable to know when the main character, Vince, is actually speaking out or thinking a response and that makes quite a difference.With page after page of sermons placed throughout the book and never moving along the topic of surviving, I could not finish reading their work. As an editor, proofreader, and writer, I believe the co-authors had misguided beliefs that they had the skill to smoothly blend personal convictions with a hot and popular topic of survival but have alienated their readers and potential readers.I those many faults and lacks, cannot recommend this book nor its prelude.

If plan on reading these books, part one and part two...don't pick one up unless you have the time...because YOU CANNOT PUT THEM DOWN!! For those of us who have been "watching" what is going on in the world and "see" with understanding...this may be a novel, but it's all a too real scenario and should wake people up. It teaches much in the process. How to prepare in case there was a big emergency.

Love the Tears of Ephraim book series! Can't wait for the third one! But, Wow! Makes me think about needing a whole lot of common sense; i.e.... an extra case of water at the grocery store and a few more canned goods here and there....sure couldn't hurt along with my faith in the Lord~~Thank you, Bill & Cindy Dunaway, for your great writing style and story. I have read book 1 and finished Book 2. I can honestly say that the Books compliment one another. This is a great novel that keeps one interests searching for the next set of cliff hangers in the novel and what Vince's group is going to do to keep their world together and safe. I will keep looking for more novels to come from William Dunaway!!!

I got very emotional reading this book. Tear formed on more than one occasion while reading. The reason I didnt give it a 5 was just was too my religion throughout some of the chapters. The battle scenes were realistic as I experienced those very same feeling. I loved the fact I didnt find any glaring misspellings and grammatical errors like in most dystopian books. I will certainly buy the next book in the series as I need to know what happened to those left behind.

Although this book has a lot of 5 stars rating, I tend to agree with the lower star reviews. Mumford was constantly quoting other people, way too much - it made me feel like I was reading a research paper rather than a book. I did not find this book useful. I was expecting it to give exercises, tips, techniques, something, but instead it just pretty much tells you that its good to be mindful. I would describe this book as like when someone asks what a word means and the person that was asked just repeats the word louder and with an emphasis instead of explaining what the word means.

George Mumford has written a must read for athletes and all of us. He discusses mindfulness as applies to sports and life as an understandable conversation with the the reader. He shares his own story and weaves the wisdom of the world's leading mindfulness teachers into a flow of aha moments that cultivate being in the moment and returning to that moment when we are distracted. There is a sense of humor in his writing and his personality leaps off of the pages. I have already bought copies for friends and I am grateful for George's gift to all of us.

George Mumford takes a concept that can be off putting to some and makes it something everyone and anyone can relate to. I read this because I am very interested in mindfulness a true believer in its power but sometimes find it hard to explain it to those who are not yet convinced. I heard an interview with Mumford on NPR and decided to order the book. It is short, easy to read and makes mindfulness accessible to anyone and everyone. I have recommended this book to several people already and will be giving it to my 13 year old son who is an avid basketball player. Even if you are not a basketball player or athlete of any kind you will find this book enlightening. In addition to great explanations of how to use mindfulness and incorporate it into your daily habits, Mumford's advice on life and handling problems will be useful to all.

Thank you George Mumford for making the case for Mindfulness-in sports as in life. Your ability to distill Mindfulness down to the 5 Superpowers and connect them to day to day practical activities that create flow and energy is a gift. Anyone who has wondered about why Mindfulness matters and wanted to figure out how to take their game or those of their friends, family, clients, business associates etc.to the next level will find this book filled with gold.

Wonderful book with a lot of practical tools for creating a more mindful life. I'm not a serious athlete by any means, but the wisdom and experience of this book can be applied to any experience in life.

He has lead the field in helping people understand how you can not only use mindfulness to become calmer and kinder and deal with pressure, but also to achieve your best performance. With his depth of experience, really having 'lost the way' himself and finding it back with the power of mindfulness, anyone who is looking for change and wants to hear how from the mouth of an expert, needs this book.

Mumford writes an interesting and accessible work on mindfulness meditation and its place in athletics. Although a little dated, it’s a good starting point for anyone interested in improving both athletic performance and stress tolerance.

Okay -- I'm editing my former review. The book has a beautiful satin cloth cover and opens like a present. The book is chock full of sumptuous photographs -- mostly from a backstage perspective -- beautiful. John Galliano's own label is exuberant and wild. I had misunderstood this book to include Galliano's work from Dior as well -- it does not. This book has designs I've read about but never seen: newspaper dresses and other clothes inspired by the homeless of Paris. Galliano's fashion shows were quite theatrical, and this book captures that. As a side note, I also have Colin McDowell's book, Galliano, published in 1997, which is totally different. As is evident, John Galliano has an excellent eye for design, texture, color and pattern. His designs are fueled by a wild imagination. Enjoy.

Book is larger than expected and has a gorgeous fabric covering, it truly is forbidden eye candy for a fashionista. Unfortunately my book arrived smooshed on one corner however it is still beautiful and filled with design delights :)

I'm biased for this book for two reasons: my ancestors came to the U.S. from Ireland in the late 1800s and early 1900s (among them were some Irish Picketts of no relation to the infamous Confederate Major General), and I'm an avid reader of Civil War history, especially the kind Dr. Tucker writes.In astonishing detail and accompanied by some quite crisp, clear photographs, Dr. Tucker's take on this little-known aspect of the Civil War is another fascinating installment in his growing library of books on the era. Unlike 99 percent of other Civil War books, Tucker's treatment views microscopic details, personalities, common soldiers' stories, unorthodox perspectives and everything we didn't learn in high school and college.In The Irish at Gettysburg, the author aims his analysis at new immigrants from the Emerald Isle who ended up, incredibly, fighting against each other across the Mason-Dixon Line. Indeed, Dr. Tucker explains, the War Between the States made strange bedfellows, with these Irish fighters perhaps the strangest of all. I gained a new perspective on the Battle of Gettysburg, sympathy for dead on both sides of the conflict, and greater insight into my ancestors' history.Another personal bias: old photographs. This book is loaded with some of the most enlightening CW pictures I've seen (and I thought I'd seen them all). A few, like one taken of the Union Hospital, and another of a war illustrator for Harper's magazine, remind us how real the war was. Photography has been around for more than 150 years, but it was stunning to see the clarity and detail in so many of the images Dr. Tucker included in his book. Faces are distinct enough to reveal the deep human emotion every participant must have felt during this sad era of America's history.Again, I'm highly biased toward the subject matter and the author, but it's safe to say that any history enthusiast or curious student of the human condition will thoroughly enjoy Dr. Phillip Tucker's "The Irish at Gettysburg." Just finished my SECOND go through of "The Irish at Gettysburg"! I have been a fan of the author, Phillip Thomas Tucker PhD, for a good while now. It has been my experience that this author can examine an already well known subject with a unique and fresh perspective that challenges my mind. I wish I could find more material these days that would challenge my mind! This coupled with the Civil War being my absolute favorite subject of literature made this book an easy buy for me.Are you fascinated by history? Are you more than a little tired of being spoon fed the same boring details over and over again? Are you of Irish descent and want to read a truly interesting account of the Irish at Gettysburg? Grab this book. Have a go through and just see if you aren't intrigued by Tuckers point of view and detailed breakdown of some of the best stories American History has to offer! In about 250 pages, you will be introduced to exciting new facts about a subject that is already enticing, there is nothing to lose here. There are even some photos that carry a special power on their own. (some of these may be difficult for some to view)I will without a doubt give this book several more reads in the coming the years, as I have with Tuckers previous works. The piece on Picketts charge was phenomenal and I am looking at "Miller Cornfield at Antietam" next.

I found this to be a most interesting examination of a seldom examined bit of history. I doubt you will be disappointed in it.

Cannot get through the introduction. It is sad when such bogus research is allowed to be printed. The introduction is 23 pages long, and filled with historical fallacies on every page. If there is any value in the rest of the book, it would amaze me, at least based on the premise. DO NOT BUY THIS BOOK IF YOU ARE SINCERELY INTERESTED IN IRISH HISTORY!

Phillip Thomas Tucker may have just turned me into a history fanatic with this book. Instead of taking a dry approach to historical events that surround Gettysburg, Tucker takes an unprecedented perspective that maximized my engagement as a reader. History is never something that I have found to be overly interesting, but this book seemed to be written in a way that kept my attention throughout its entirety.In this book, Tucker paints a picture of the Irish impact on the Civil War. He describes historical events in great detail and gives insights into key moments in the Civil War in a compelling manner. Some of the historical events that I remember hearing about in high school, such as Pickett’s charge, were presented in a vivid form.From my perspective, the best thing about this book is the pure detail that is given by Tucker. When reading and learning about history, I prefer to have the more story-based perspective that is presented in this book, instead of just pure facts. Because Tucker provides this sort of narrative, this book is very focused on particular events in the Civil War and does not cover a broad amount of information. For me, this is what I was looking for, however, if you are looking for a more extensive, textbook-style view of history, this book may not be for you.Overall, I don’t think you can go wrong with reading this book. Like I said, I am not a huge history fan, but Tucker’s book was a nice read for a change of pace. I found it very exciting and will definitely be checking out Tucker’s other works!
