This was a very carefully researched, thoughtfully organized, and extraordinarily well-written account of a very difficult and challenging end to a horrendous war carried out by a cruel and remorseless regime. The authors thoughtfully analyze and explain the conflicting politics behind the desires of the victorious Allies to bring and demonstrate justice to those who instigated and prosecuted the war. They explain the difficulties of melding very different legal and governmental systems to create an international tribunal. They explain the difficulties of basing a trial on pre-existing law rather than trying people based on laws created after the fact. They explain the logistical nightmare of conducting a meaningful trial in which the participants spoke different languages and came from different cultures and different justice systems. They explain the need to give the defendants a meaningful opportunity to defend themselves and, equally important, to create an environment in which those defendants might feel that they had a fair opportunity to defend themselves. They give us fascinating thumbnail sketches of the major characters--the defendants, the lawyers, and the judges. And they do all this in an articulate and light-hearted manner with flashes of humor. I am a lawyer, and I found the analyses of the legal issues fascinating. But I think a non-lawyer would find them fascinating too. I had not realized what a profound innovation the Nuremberg Trial had been in international history.

This is interesting background about the prosecution and defense, and some information about the defendants at Nuremberg. I wanted to know more about the Nuremberg trials and this certainly provided the information that I hoped for. That said, the Kindle edition is so riddled with typos and dropped letters that there were times I couldn't make sense of a sentence. It spoiled a good deal of the book for me.

This is an excellent, lawyerly history. Perhaps too much time and space allotted to things of interest to lawyers (rather than the general reader). But the overall experience was marred by Typos and other mistakes, virtually on every page. Dates were often unintelligible (193&). Names were butchered (Hitler, Hider, Hiler etc). And many other Abd frequent similar problems. Too bad.

Well written. It is interesting to see the arguments about what laws could be applied and how much was unchartered legal territory at the time. Also the different characters are well portrayed, as well on the Allied side, as on the German side.Very distracting are however the innumerous spelling errors. Several per each page and often it is pure guesswork of what was really meant. Luckily I am fluent in German and could at least guess most of the misspelled German expressions. After a while one knows that Hider is actually a misspelled Hitler. Even the numbers in the dates (years) are often wrong and/or incomplete.All in all a book to be recommended but lousily edited.

Both interesting and stupor inducing which seemed also to be the experience of those who participated in the Nuremberg trial. Reading this has been (I'm nearly finished) a bit of a forced march with me becoming almost mercifully disoriented by so many legal contortions and distracted by more typos than I've ever seen in a book I haven't yet thrown across the room. I am assuming the many typos have something to do with the Kindle format which can do some strange things, it seems. Still, the book has held my interest so I'll give it a three-star rating wishing I could give it another half-star..."It's okay,...really!"

I agree with GeekyGal about scanning errors for the Kindle edition. Some are amusing, some annoying, and one, so far, a serious flaw. Since the book proceeds chronologically, the year is reported only infrequently because the reader should be able to keep track. Chapter 5 deals with the difficult negotiations that resulted ultimately in the signing of the 1945 London Agreement and the establishment of the Charter that was to govern the Nuremberg Trial. The Kindle edition (I hope it is only the Kindle edition) reads as follows regarding the perceived advantages of holding the trials in Nuremberg: "Not least - it was in the American zone. American rations were notoriously better than anyone else's in 1941..." And a bit later in the chapter, the following: "Few of the questions they raised, philosophical or practical, troubled the public at large in August 1941." Of course, the Americans hadn't even entered the war in 41, much less had the Allies started consideration of how to deal with war crimes. I was momentarily confused, and the footnotes were no help since they did not bear the year either.

This is another great book, I enjoy the characters tremendously they all seem to be growing and developing within the storyline. "As a guide for beginners and practiced weavers Jane Patrick's book is inspirational. Although specifically aimed at the rigid heddle loom, the 200 pages hold a wealth of information on weave structures and patterns that can be used on many looms. The spiral bound, textbook-style layout is good, with clear section separation, and the chapters take you up a hierarchy of difficulty. I felt comfortable with plain, finger-controlled and pick up weaves, then I marvelled in awe at sections on warp and weft-faced frabrics and working with two heddles. There is a nod to garment and item construction in the guise of a few set pieces, but the book's real strength is in opening a treasure chest of weaving possibility to new or relatively inexperienced weavers. Each section provides a soft kaleidoscope of samples which I have already been tempted to replicate. The book will doubtless remain a good source book to refer to for new creative ideas and inspiration. However, the book might give the absolute beginner a puzzle at times, as it is not always clear and sometimes repetitive. I have this book both in Kindle and spiral bound formats. The content is the same in both formats and well reviewed by others. As a weaver with intermediate experience on a rigid heddle loom, I find this book thorough and inspiring, and it's my go-to, most-often-used-by-far weaving book. Well done, Jane Patrick!My review focuses on the format differences. My first purchase (January 2014) was the Kindle format. It's a lot cheaper, and the idea of keeping my books in the cloud appeals to me in general. I particularly like the ability to click and zoom in on photos, but when I do, I can only see the photo... not the instructions. I have some favorites that I enjoy weaving with different yarns, colors, setts, etc., and though they are bookmarked, I find I have to do a lot of flipping through to find them. The power-saving Kindle feature often powers down the display when I am in the middle of following the instructions... frustrating.Given the extensive use I get from this book, I decided to order the spiral bound format as well (January 2015). LOVE IT! I had no idea what I was missing with the Kindle format. The layout of multiple photos on a two-page spread allows me to compare variations and see full projects. The photos are large enough for me not to miss the zoom capability, and they are vividly colorful. I also understand more clearly when I can see the photo and description side-by-side, which was more challenging with the shorter single pages and smaller photo size format in the Kindle edition. I have added physical bookmarks to my favorites, so no more searching. The spiral-bound format stays open without a fuss for as long as I need it.Whether you're just starting out or have lots of weaving experience, this book is a keeper you're likely to use often for guidance and inspiration. The spiral-bound format is well-worth the cost difference.

This is a really useful book for rigid heddle weavers. However, I strongly recommend getting a hard bound copy of this book rather than the Kindle version. The page breaks on the Kindle version make it really hard to see what's going on with the patterns. The hard bound version has a ring binding so the book lays flat. Much easier to read and follow while you are weaving.

I recently got into weaving, and decided a simple rigid heddle loom would be a great way to start. After hearing from one dealer that she had "never heard of anyone who taught themselves to warp a loom or weave" I decided I would challenge that by teaching myself! I found this book on Amazon and looked at it for days trying to decide if this was going to be useful or not. I took the plunge and got it along with a few other books.The book is VERY well organized, clearly written, and extremely helpful. I worked my way through the majority of the book in about a month - and within 6 weeks of getting my loom I was weaving with two heddles! The patterns are clearly explained, the photos are helpful, and the tips that are sprinkled through the book are very useful.I bought the companion video online from Intraweave and learned a LOT more on warping a loom in various ways from that, as well as being able to see in a video form on my laptop how to do things like hemstitching and various patterns.If you are thinking of learning to weave and would like a simple, easy to understand resource that can get you going on your own quickly, this is the book for you! I only wish there were more rigid heddle weaving resources like this book.

Excellent book. This book, along with Inventive Weaving on a Little Loom, is packed full of useful information for the beginning rigid heddle weaver. The author, Jane Patrick, has a video that is also helpful; Weaving on a Rigid Heddle Loom. That can be downloaded from Interweave.com. There is also a DVD of this video.

I have woven on a floor loom before, but downsized to a rigid-heddle recently. I bought three books that seemed promising. Of the three, this one is hands-down the most exciting! So many possibilities using this simple loom! This book is divided into logical chapters, and has tons of beautiful, clear pictures to inspire and illustrate. This isn't a how-to-warp-your-loom book (that one is Betty Linn Davenport's "Rigid Heddle Weaving"), but rather an exciting adventure guide. The projects are much more attractive and useful than most books, for me. I recommend this book most highly.

I love this book, I have a 24" rigid heddle loom and the only weaving I'd done before was on an inkle loom. This book gives great project ideas after clearly giving instructions on basic techniques and terminology. The pace and order in which explanations are given are great and the images are wonderful. My only Complaint lies in some formatting preferences. Over all a great book for anyone getting into weaving

Many people tout Betty Linn Davenport's book "Hands on Rigid Heddle Weaving" as THE book on rigid heddle weaving, but in my opinion, this book by Jane Patrick is just as informative and gives you more ideas/inspiration. I have gotten a couple books on the subject from my library and none of them, including Davenport's book even compared to this one. I knew immediately that THIS is THE book to own regarding rigid heddle weaving.A huge plus is the spiral binding that allows you to easily open it, and leave it opened, to any page.

I like this book, it has some excellent pictorial instructions as well as easy to follow written instructions. I am new to weaving, so I don't know if this would suit an advance weaver or not. I can say there are lots of things in the book I am not ready to try yet, but so far everything I have tried worked exactly as the author indicated. I really liked the finishing techniques. The other book I had didn't really give clear instructions about ending, this books gives several methods.

You'll discover Schumpeter's trumpet, not by name, but in the way, that a good and vigilant shepherd becomes "a perennial gale of creative destruction" to predators and problems, while sharing innovative recipes for prevention. He will involve you with the empathy that shepherds have for sheep.In Pastorates today, I've seen the rancher mentality and the shepherd mindset toward "the Sheep of His Pasture." Regrettably, both need the understanding conveyed by this book. Then hopefully both will find their proper place becoming more effective. After reading this short volume, you will approach your ministry differently or should, but either way, you'll have received the virtual experience of what King David, the shepherd knew.

We are using this book for a ladies bible study and it is amazing. It brings such deep insight into the Great Shepherd! Each insight is so important for us "city-dwellers" to understand. There is no way for us to understand the diligent care of a shepherd unless we hear it from an actual shepherd. Keller is truly a caring and gifted shepherd, while also being one of the flock who loves our dear Lord. I recommend this book for anyone who wants to know God better, deeper, and truer.

This is written by a real shepherd. I learned so much about why God compares our relationship to that of a shepherd and his sheep. There are so many aspects of sheep that we don't know about unless we live with them. All the things he talks about describes our behavior towards God, and God's love and protection towards us.One small example is the fact that sheep are completely defenseless. They literally have no means of defending themselves, except running. Therefore, they are completely dependent on the shepherd, and when he is not around, they feel nervous and cannot grow healthily.It is an easy and engrossing read. Highly recommend.

Wow! Great book! Very insightful and thought provoking book examining the similarities between Jesus, our Good Shepherd, and we the sheep of His pasture. I learned a lot about sheep and had to chuckle at some of the funnier parallels between sheep and believers. Also cringed a bit over some of the not-so-flattering similarities! This my 4th purchase of this book, as I've the other 3 away!

This is the best book. If you are looking for a Bible study for Psalm 23, look no further. This is awesome. Phillip Keller was a real shepherd, and he thoroughly explains some of the things about sheep that explains the 23rd Psalm in so much more depth. Being that I'm not a shepherd, I didn't totally understand some of the reasoning behind the 23rd Psalm. But after reading some of the explanations of sheep and the things that they do, it brings newer meaning and insight to the 23rd Psalm. This is an older version of the book. The newer versions that are on sale now are only excerpts from the book. This is the actual book itself. Wish he would re-publish this one in its entirety so that more people could study this. This was definitely worth finding a used copy of to study. I have enjoyed it so very much.

As an experienced shepherd, the author transports us into the role and mind of a loving shepherd to understand why David chose the words he did and how they relate to his sheep and how they parallel the love of our Great Shepherd, Jesus. I cannot say enough about this book, but if you want an in-depth understanding of Psalm 23, I guarantee the insight from a shepherd's perspective in this book will never leave you, or forsake you.

The perspective of Psalm 23 is brought forward so beautifully through the eyes of the author who was a former sheep farmer. Never before have I had such a detailed understanding of what God is saying to His people and there is really no way to fully grasp the meaning of this Scripture unless you know what is entailed taking care of sheep as their shepherd. The author has assigned a chapter to each verse and gives a very insightful lesson of his perspective as the role of a shepherd.This book has changed my life and my understanding concerning the role of the pastor and his congregation. I read to a group of residents at a local nursing home each weekday and recently took a train trip across country and a couple of the residents took care of the reading to the group while I was away. A visitor shared this book with the group, which they were well into when I returned. We read through the book twice, my husband read through it twice, and we bought four new books to share with others. I'm so glad to have found this beautiful little book.Do yourself a favor and buy a new hardcover. The mass production paperback is very small print and harder to read. Enjoy!
